A LONG thread in response to @paulconnors27 and @ciarakellydoc
There are many problems with the below tweet and the article written by Ciara Kelly in the @TheSundayIndo Here are my reflections:
ONE: the Director of Comms for the @HSELive should be witholding comment until...1/10 https://twitter.com/paulconnors27/status/1198516842144436224
...the RCOG report has been published and ALL women & families have been contacted. As usual, however, scant respect is shown to those affected.
TWO: Ciara claims that many people view CervicalCheck as "cause for litigation" This is simply not true. Of the 221 group...2/10
...so far, ONLY 6 cases have hit the courts. Yes, there are more cases pending but it is certainly NOT the case that ALL of the @221plus have cause to sue.
THREE: I take offence at Ciara's claim that "no one will benefit from suing except those in receipt of legal fees" 3/10
Tell that to MY children, and the children of Emma Mhic Mhathúna and @RuthMorrissey who have successfully sued and who will NOT see our children grow up. Our settlements will be used to 'benefit' our families when we are gone
FOUR: Ciara claims that auditing was stopped...4/10
...by the @HSELive for fear of litigation and that this is leaving women 'at risk'. Women have BEEN at risk for a number of years, Ciara, or have you forgotten? The @GabrielScally report found that the programme was 'doomed to fail' and that the audit was 'inadequate' 5/10
FIVE: Ciara claims that 'IF the leaks are true' there will be 3 different results when looking at the same screening tests. This is NOT the case. The Scally Inquiry did NOT review ANY slides so did not come up with ANY results. Please get your facts right, Ciara...6/10
ONLY women in the @221plus who have consented to RCOG will have 3 sets of results. Women in this group will have:
1. the original smear test result
2. a CervicalCheck audit result
3. RCOG review result
For the remaining women, they will have TWO results (1 and 3 above) 7/10
SIX: Ciara claims that with the RCOG review, those looking at the screening tests knew the women had cancer. What she forgot to mention was that this was ALSO the case with the CervicalCheck audit, which we know was inadequate. CC Reviewers also KNEW the women had cancer 8/10
FINALLY: I hope that this thread, to use Ciara's own words "goes some way towards illustrating how subjective views are on cervical screening." The ONLY people doing women in this country NO favours are those who believe that... 9/10
...the women and families affected by the CervicalCheck debacle, if they deign to take a case, will be responsible for bringing down the cervical screening programme. CervicalCheck did that all on its own, as the Scally Report has shown 10/10
