One tip is to demo a LN payment off *their* phone on http://yalls.org . Get them to open it up and click a random article, and you demo a payment to unlock the paywall.

While I like to demo LN payment for beginners, I still think it's a bit more advanced and not quite ready for "onboarding beginners directly into LN" yet.

my current preference is to get them on a bitcoin on chain wallet such as Samourai Wallet for now.
