Love twitter but find some of the interactions overwhelming?

Here are a few things you can do to reduce the amount of outrage in your timeline and notifications:

1/n
1) Sort timeline by "latest first" (on top right). This shows tweets chronologically, rather than most clickable (often most outrage-provoking) tweets first.

Twitter will switch you back a few times, but each time you select this it stays longer, until it stops switching back.
2) Set your notifications according to your preferences. Preferences > notifications > select advanced filters.

You can e.g. select "mute notifications from people who don't follow you". You'll now be less likely to see trolls and people looking to provoke without knowing you.
3) You can make a list of people who's tweets you appreciate, find interesting, relevant, etc. Then instead of reading your timeline overall, start reading the tweets from the list. Quite different :)

(If you keep the list private, you avoid offending people who are not on it.)
4) You can mute words or persons that tend to make your Twitter experience less pleasant.

5) Important to remember that you don't owe people on Twitter a response. This is not email. Only engage if you feel like it :)
6) You can mute conversations/discussions if you're no longer excited to follow them (click on right side of a tweet in that discussion).
7) Remember to have fun.

Unless your job somehow requires you to be active on Twitter, I recommend going by the motto: If it's not fun (or helpful), no need to do it :)
