Labour's pledge to give everyone 'full rights' from day one of their job is BIG. Currently people in work must be in a role for 2 years before gaining full rights, meaning no protection from e.g. unfair dismissal in the first 2 years. Under Labour, you'll be protected immediately
As workers don't have full rights for first 2 years in a role, many can't request flexible working. Flexible working reduces work-related stress, the biggest cause of sickness absence in the UK - Labour's pledge to give full rights to workers from day 1 of a job will address this
Unfair dismissal protections only apply after 2 years in a role. Stress is the biggest cause of sickness absence. Absence can be grounds for dismissal. Labour affording workers full rights from day one of a job means workers won't be punished for sickness, especially work-related
Labour unifying all in-work under 'worker' status is a game-changer. 'Employee', 'worker' & 'self-employed' status confer different rights. Employers use wrong status to shaft us. Only tribunals can challenge this. With no protection from unfair dismissal, tribunal is impossible
By banning zero hours contracts, ensuring anyone working 12+ hrs a week gets a regular contract, enforcing full worker's rights from day one of a job rather than after 2 years, and by affording all workers the same rights, Labour have addressed the 4 major drivers of precarity
if people knew how bad UK worker's rights are, they'd be more excited about Labour's (excellent) pledges. contrary to popular belief, protection from unfair dismissal is basically non-existent, discrimination protections are froth, and grievances are just a tribunal pit-stop
