A lot of conservative Christian men today feel a great sense of displacement within evangelicalism.

That may sound inconceivable if your attention is on the abuses that occur within the system.

But there is an entire cohort of disenfranchised guys without any ideological home.
10 years ago, these men, myself included, had found a home on two fronts.

1. The rest supplied by God’s sovereignty and unconditional election rescued us from the militancy of secular machismo.
2. The pro-masculine message of Driscoll, MacDonald, and adjacent organizations helped us to locate our masculinity within the imago dei—without apology, exception, or qualification to progressives.
That has all dissolved now, and the only categories we have for conservative, Christian, masculine men are:

• Idiot Trumper
• Incel
• Neocon
• Troll
• Complicit Abuser
It’s not about whether these categories can be accurate, but the absence of nuanced categories to supply men with what attracted them to New Calvinism in 2008:

• Rest from the law that guards us from wrath.

• A meaningful masculinity that isn’t held captive by progressives.
Our fathers taught us to lift weights, to learn martial arts, to risk offensive taboo with humor, to take responsibility, to be bold enough to ask women on dates, and to be leaders in the community.

We also love Jesus Christ.

There is no home for us in this cultural moment.
This is not about angry immature men.

Boys have energy.
Men have energy.

We desire a purpose and a tribe worthy of that energy.

No ideology that seeks to suppress that energy will ever keep men.

This is not about nurture, but nature.

God made us this way, and he won’t stop.
