He repeatedly grabs Rey’s hand in TFA, despite the facts he’s seen she can handle herself & despite her explicitly telling him not to. He treats her like a fragile girl who needs to be rescued by him. He is always surprised when she ends up escaping/rescuing herself...
Or when she returns from an ordeal looking less damaged/traumatised than he clearly expects her to.

Sarah’s tweets in no way JUDGED Finn or displayed DISLIKE/HATRED as all these people ate acting like. They simply said ‘this is the journey the films are telling us Finn is on’. This stuff is IN THE FILMS FOR A REASON. It’s called WRITING. It’s all designed to TELL US STUFF.
This particular aspect of Finn’s journey has nothing to do with his race (tho there’s a whole TON of stuff that could be said about Black men coveting/protecting white women at the expense of others & the kind of misogyny particular to many men of colour but that’s another convo)
His journey is reflective of ALL MEN who are socialised under patriarchy to be misogynistic & view women in certain ways. Even if in all other ways they are a Good Guy

Sarah is a woman of colour. I’m a Black woman. We spend a lot of time & energy learning about the storytelling/filmmaking theories that we know FOR A FACT shaped Star Wars. If you truly love SW & these characters/films, you do them a disservice to not look beyond the surface.
You do Finn a disservice to reduce him to a simple 2D character who is not capable of growth & evolving & improving. The entire SW story/world is designed to teach people of ALL AGES/RACES/GENDERS that there’s always room for growth, to every day choose to lean into the light.
If you can’t understand this insanely integral, simple core at the heart of SW/storytelling/filmmaking then I don’t know what else to say other than it’s a real shame, bc when you do understand this stuff, it makes SW & stories so much richer, more enjoyable & meaningful.
