Calling any democratically elected leader "The Chosen One," as if there is some sort of divine election involved is terrible theology. It is also a claim that undermines democratic principles.
Trump, Obama, W. Bush, Clinton, H.W. Bush, Reagan--chosen by people, not by another force. Even if you want to introduce some convoluted theology of the Holy Spirit, elected officials are not placed in their positions by God.
People can be called to secular vocations, which I think has a spiritual element to it, and yes, I think Public Service is a calling (however one articulates that sense of call), but GOD. DID. NOT. ELECT. ANYONE.
I feel thinking like this is what happens when we let fundamentalist churches become the de facto civics educators of middle and upper middle class America.
And this is a hill I'm willing to die on, so to speak. I just think we sound silly when we say things like this.
