Just a quick thread following up on the idea of the UCs going test optional.

First this is pretty big though not as big as the people in my poll thought it was. Californians are about 14% of all SAT test takers. https://twitter.com/akilbello/status/1198057451922378752
Now on to the making ascientific and ahistoric arguments about the test.

If you believe, as Thomas Jefferson did, that talent is equally distributed than it's hard to support the continued use of standardized tests which seem to indicate that talent is distributed by wealth.
If you believe as Carl Brigham (father of the SAT) eventually came to, then it's hard to support the current use of SATs and ACTs

Even Alfred Binet had some thoughts that might make us question the way we are currently viewing standardized tests.
All the guys who invented testing seem to question the uses we are putting them to.
Even College Board in the past did a better of warning about misuse of test scores.
If you believe The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing
Developed jointly by American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, National Council on Measurement in Education then you'll object to the misuse of test scores.
There are also significant questions about the design of many of these tests. Many of which aren't answered year after year.

IF you believe the professors the resigned SAT was/is a problem
If you believe the evidence, you'll see doubt how precise an instrument these tests are.

(yes that box-and-whisker plot does show a 70 point variance for the same number of questions correct!)
So my question in all of this isn't why the UCs would go test optional, it's why they wouldn't.

There are a whole slew of colleges that should be test optional and for inexplicable reasons aren't. | Why Aren’t More Colleges Test Optional? http://akilbello.com/why-arent-more-colleges-test-optional/
