Today has only reinforced to me how broken & under resourced our system is.

I've known this for a while after working in & accessing mental health services myself. I've been on both sides of the table, I know how hard it is in both roles.

Today a loved one needed support...
They were told they were likely 'BPD' which as many of you know, is something that angers me greatly. Not just the label itself but also the way people are treated as a result.

I challenged this after giving an extensive trauma history, explained adaptations and responses...
But then of course I ran into the obsticle that many people do. If I challenge the diagnosis then I run the risk of this person not being able to access further support.

In the end I've had to go private as many others do. They didn't need an acute needs facility...
They needed community psych services, social resource, social care, occupational therapy etc

All the things that have been disappearing from our system for years. After discussion we refused the BPD label as I'd already been fortunate enough to have previously...
Done a formulaion with this person (thankgod for the #PTMframework) that explained the responses to trauma, threat, meaning etc

But I know I'm not alone one experiencing this because I see it all the time and it's farcical.

We will be fine and I'm so fortunate that...
I have the information, resource, training etc but so many don't.

This binary option of accepting the 'BPD' label in order to access support or rejecting it and being left with nothing, is toxic.

I understand from the other side too that resources aren't there...
I see it every day. People in need of support that either doesn't exist, or has been cut.

I refuse to believe that this is the best we can do. I refuse to believe that this is just and humane.

We can and must do better.
