Your worst enemy in a basketball court is a thought process. Basketball is an instinctive game with decisions made at split second moments. It’s reactionary. If you think? You’re fucked.
Shooting is confidence in muscle memory. You can even confidence+ muscle memory. But it’s not thought about. If you think before a shot you’re not going to make it. Decisions are made ahead of the decision to shoot or pass.
The very best players can see things a pass ahead or a play ahead. They can anticipate teammate movement and use it to their advantage to position and help the team. But I say again: this game cannot allow a active mind. It just can’t. And I know that because I went 1-28 once.
And the 1? I thought it was an air ball, and it went in. I solved my mental issue with music lyrics. Once I found it all again I didn’t need that stuff. But don’t discount the power of music if you’re having thoughts on the court. It helps. Rap or sing it.
And it works because if the mind is busy with lyrics the muscle memory is taking over. The instincts are taking over. It’s simple psychology.
