A thread of what Exeter students can do to support @ExeterUCU members who are striking this next 2 weeks.
/ Join the picket line. Unsure about legal regulations around a picket? Check out picket-related questions on @ExeterGuild FAQ page: https://www.exeterguild.org/strikeaction/
/ Attend teach-outs! Details in the tweet below: https://twitter.com/_drsang/status/1198984431706558465?s=20
/ Join the Students' Solidarity with strikers movement!
Their Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/528943017693742/
Their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Exeter-Students-Support-the-UCU-Strikes-2019-2019390628284995/
/ Keep yourself informed about what's going on. Follow @ExeterUCU and @ExeterLine. We also regularly update our web page with resources and relevant information about the strike. Again, this is the link: https://www.exeterguild.org/strikeaction/
/ Keep your peers informed about the strike, especially if they don't know or don't understand what's going on. If you've got leaflets or posters to disseminate, make sure you speak to reception of the building where you intend to hand out leaflets.
/ If you have posters, @ExeterGuild are happy for you to put these up in Devonshire House. Just make sure you get it stamped by reception!
/ Don't beat yourself up if you have to cross the picket line. Everyone's individual situation is different. International students may need to be cautious about their attendance. And campus is also home for medical and wellbeing support. Just be kind to everyone.
/ It is frustrating but please understand that your striking lecturers and tutors may not reply to your emails as part of the strike action. If you do support the action, please refrain from emailing them until after the strike. https://twitter.com/ange_cass/status/1198999089310031872?s=20
/ We have an agreement that attending any event happening on campus in the evening doesn't mean crossing the picket line. However, if you're unhappy about events happening on campus during picket times, please write to the event organisers. DM me if you need wording suggestion.
/ This one is for @ExeterGuild subject reps and subject chairs. SSLC meetings may happen during the strike and I have emailed all subject chairs about the option to relocate their meetings to Cornwall House or Kay House. Get in touch with me if you’d like to take on the offer!
/ This is a good one and applies to absolutely everyone. REGISTER TO VOTE - you have until tomorrow to do so. Link here: http://tiny.cc/wlqrgz
/ On 12th December, make sure you vote for a party that stands for workers’ rights. I can’t tell you which one that is - you’ll have to read up on parties’ manifestos and do your research to figure that out. Your lecturers need a government that ensure great working conditions.
