Bloomberg is running the best campaign for Bloomberg. That doesn’t mean he would win — I don’t think he will — but bear with me here. First, the whole “it’s never worked” has an “n” of about 3. And we don’t know how these mega-fields work. 1/ https://twitter.com/geoffreyvs/status/1198976086501208064
Could they be exactly the same? Sure! There are good reasons to think they are in fact. Just not definitive ones. 2/
Now, as to Bloomberg, assume that he was in the debates, running around IA, etc. he would constantly be bombarded with questions and criticisms about his well-known weaknesses, not the least of which being that he endorsed George W Bush. 3/
As it stands, while his opponents are being picked apart in Iowa, he can occupy the field in the Super Tuesday states, having the airwaves largely to himself and giving him the opportunity to define himself. 4/
Missing the debates are a problem, but frankly he doesn’t need the free media, because he can buy it. And he doesn’t have to sit there with Warren and Sanders taking shots at him for being rich. Let Steyer take those hits.
Again, don’t think this will work, but there is a method to his madness. And who knows, maybe Bernie and Warren are the last two staggering out of SC, and then who knows what happens. 6/6
