Thread: I love writing books but to be profiled in one was a departure. I said yes to “Forty Fathers” for three reasons.

1) It was time to share my struggles about my upbringing, being a man & parenting.

2) Tessa Lloyd, the author, is fab.

3) We need more vulnerability.
Everyone has baggage. Me included. An alcoholic mom was no fun growing up. It still isn’t.

I’ve always tried to wear my heart on my sleeve, but this opportunity allowed me a different chance to open up.

Men have to stop believing they have to be tough & without baggage.
70 percent of all suicides in Canada are by men. However, only 30 percent of men access mental health support services. That’s sad.

I figured if I could share a wee bit more, maybe that might prevent one more death. Maybe it will help a man see he doesn’t have to be a “man.”
I am a metrosexual, feminist married to a wonderful woman, raising three teens. We aren’t always getting it right.

Many men think they have to get it right 100% of the time. You don’t. It’s okay to fail, to cry, to show your underbelly.

Machoism is overrated.
So, with that, I encourage men (and women) to not only pick up a copy of the book, but for fathers to reconsider their manliness.

Is it really worth it? Will your kids think less of you if you’re a tad more vulnerable and loving?

To cry about.
Also, I’ll never be in the same room as these 39 other men, but what an honour to be in a book with them about fatherhood.
