1/3 Many of our problems come from not understanding the difference between the freedom of a civilian and the freedom of a citizen. Being a civilian means acting under civil law in civil society, which is market based, meaning your actions aren't determined by commend (millitary)
2/3 You have status in civil society as a producer. If you are just a consumer, you aren't active. You are consuming goods other people produce at the price other people set for you. It's a passive. When you act and contest and determine yourself, it's as a producer.
3/3 In an advanced economy, the vast majority of producers for civil society are going to be employees, providing goods and services, not employers. To secure self-determination for those civilians, we need to guarantee them a job, as the right of a civilian, and a union.
This is what I mean when I say that the US isn't corrupt; it's incomplete. We have never secured the rights required for democracy, which depends on free civilians then acting as citizens.
We thought we could have citizens, who were themselves, dependent civilians. When the Founders limited the vote to property owning White men, they weren't merely being racist and sexist, they were limiting citizenship to those who could be independent civilians.
Our task, if we are going to progress, is to complete our constitution by securing that every American is an independent civilian, even as they are employees, so that they can in turn ALSO serve as self-determining citizens.
