. @mta officials will testify on their $51.5b capital plan at @nyccouncil this morning. ahead of the hearing, @twulocal100 members are rallying with transit advocates outside city hall.
. @ydanis says: no service cuts, no job cuts. tells twu members “we are at your side.” @ridersny also here: calls capital plan “full of promises.”
oh shit @ridersalliance is their new handle. spox danny pearlstein says city-level electeds must “stand up” for city riders.
pearlstein is railing against mta’s growing debt, which we pay for with our fares. pearlstein also throws cold water on decision to hire 500 cops, which twu supports.
. @ydanis calls up twu surface division head jp patafio. they took over buildings at cuny together in the 90s.

“capital without a workforce is nothing. transit workers... make the capital come to life,” patafio says.
twu is opposing using operating funds to pay capital, and vice versa.
the mta wants the city to contribute $3b to the capital plan. that’ll need the 👍 from city council.
. @ydanis says pat foye & andy byford came into the hearing thru the backdoor. “whoever advised them to walk thru the back way to avoid chanting, that’s not the right way for a leader to respond” to worker concerns.
ydanis says the city should only contribute to the capital plan if it’s given control of the agency...
“i’m always open to discuss any asks of the mta,” rodriguez adds.
@ydanis‘s response to whether he supports adding 500 cops is to do “more prevention of crimes.” says he wants “clarity” — how will recruitment happen, what will training look like, and to what extent “minor crimes” will be criminalized.
