I have some sympathy for Doug. He's getting crap for "lack of creativity" and such. Guy is down half his starters, has multiple fill-ins off the street. Playbook is going to be tiny by necessity.

When he tried to "get creative", it ended in that catastrophe of a play to Sanders then ended in a fumble.

You don't have to be a brilliant DC to know they're going to try to get the ball to Ertz and Geodert. It's an extraordinarily easy offense to defend right now. I put most of that on lack of speed.

To go to an extreme, watch Tyreke Hill. It doesn't matter if you know what's coming, he can outrun any number of defenders. Ertz can be taken away pretty easily if you know you can shut down a bunch of JV-level guys on the outside without help.

Without speed, what is the cost of making a mistake for any opposing defense?
