Widespread corruption like we’re seeing doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of greed masquerading as government, decades of culture obsessed with self-enrichment. It’s an escalating crisis and it’s only going to get worse unless we address it now.
You don’t get Trump without the false cultural notion that wealth denotes competence and you don’t get Trump if culture doesn’t promote greed over humanity. That he would take power and juice the government for every cent and surround himself with similar grifters is expected.
There’s no duty with Trump or his goons. They see America as a means to an end, a thing that allows them to profit. They’re not concerned with laws or institutions or notions of service. It’s a cash register. That’s all.
This is why we see treasonous behavior made so casual. Of course they would welcome foreign meddling. It’s a business to them and in this system you’d want to transcend borders. This is an evolution of what we’ve had and to cure it we must change it.
Big business craves advantage and will trouble the law looking for one and risk a fine if caught. Trump’s administration operates on that principle and so laws and institutions are things to work around. They’ve discovered oversight is faulty so they’re more and more brazen.
Politics shouldn’t be business. Never should have been. Until we refocus politics toward solutions versus profit for individuals, we’re going to watch corruption grow until it’s synonymous with government. We’re at a crossroads and there’s no time to lose.
