It is the sheer number of the working class who support Johnson that gets me down on Twitter at the moment.
That huge group of right wing press reading, forelock tugging Thatcherite swallowing men and women who'll vote for Johnson despite everything.
(Thread)
They'll vote for him despite his racism, his lies, his stupidity, his craven ambition, and his disdain for the dopes who'll put a tick in the Tory box despite all kinds of argument, because they've swallowed the disinformation from the likes of Riley and Hopkins about Corbyn.
Not that Corbyn is the great god either. I think he's an idealist who given the chance might have done some great things if he could of united his party behind him.
The problem is though, he's damaged goods now.
The right wing press have holed him below the waterline and no amount of televised debating and trimming his beard is going to change the mind of the people he needs to vote for him.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
While I'm moaning about Labour, they depress me because they've done a awful job of convincing voters for years. A strong Labour leadership would have walked through the likes of Theresa May and Boris Johnson. A strong leadership would have stood up to the bullies in the press.
A strong Labour leadership would have thwarted Farage by having a grown up conversation about immigration. A strong leadership would have cut Brexit off before it happened by explaining how good it would be to stay in Europe, and not how bad it would be to leave.
A poor Labour performance has allowed the Tories to do what they've done over these last few years, and you can blame Chuka and Berger all you want, but a strong leadership wouldn't have let it happen.
The thing that depresses me most about Twitter and Facebook in general though, is that I don't think any of it is going to get better.
Factions are going to reinforce themselves and communicate less and less with each other while billionaires simply get richer.
Nobody changes their mind in these places despite what we think. I'm the worst for retweeting @davidschneider et al, but does it make it difference to Dave in Dagenham who drives a cab and hates Corbyn?
No it doesn't.
Dave just thinks he is being lectured by lefties and goes back to reading The Sun.
Christ it is depressing.
Anyway, happy Monday.
Next week, if I'm still on twitter, I might tweet something about kittens, but don't build your hopes up.
