it's a lazy summer and they spend a lot of time swimming in the lake, and also wyb gets to watch xz paint out on the lawn while he pretends to do translation/transcription work for his dad, and he spends every night jerking off thinking about how xz is sleeping IN HIS BED

also obv wyb tries and fails to teach xz how to ride a bike ("how tf do you not know how to ride a bike?" "shut up and steer") so instead they ride wyb's motorcycle into town together and get food and books and walk around and wyb can almost pretend! it's a date!!

one time wyb straps his skateboard to the back just so he can show zhan-ge a bunch of neat tricks in a place that isn't just the endless plains of the countryside

xz pretends not to be impressed but wyb is PRETTY SURE he ACTUALLY IS

or maybe xz is just being nice and letting the only son of his graduate advisor for the summer steal half his green tea every morning out of a sense of obligation and none of this really means anything to him

probably at some point during the summer xuan lu comes to visit, and she's also a dancer and an old family friend so wyb always likes talking shop with her about classical styles, but xz is so nice to her and wyb's suddenly about to be eaten alive by jealousy lmao

unfortunately i don't have time to write this rn but there's maybe one (1) charged kiss on the night of wyb's birthday and xz says some things he doesn't really mean about wyb growing out of this dumb crush and how the hero worship won't last

and then xz has to go back to chongqing and try to forget about everything that happened (he does not) and move on with his life (he does not)

and then probably wyb comes to find him 5 years later when he's graduated from college and xz's an adjunct art professor in beijing and they get to be happy bc they've both grown individually and wyb's more secure as a person and xz gets to accept the love he thinks he deserves
