This morning I had a doctor's appointment to deal with my ongoing sight issues. I'm functionally blind in one eye due to a corneal disease - and while I can see with a specialist contact lens - my vision is still way less than perfect.
Over the last two years I've been unable to see (haha) a specialist. The hospital I used to visit has been unable to fill the contact lens specialist position. My GP just told me the eye department there is completely overloaded.
Over the summer I had to make several visits over to Taunton to find the nearest contact lens specialist. And I had to pay privately to get the new contact lens I needed.
Why? Because here in West Dorset there isn't an NHS contact lens specialist - Dorchester still hasn't filled the position.
Our NHS is in a dire position. The Tory government has underfunded the service to breaking point. This is one of those times where my own personal experience runs right up against politics.
My eye health is being affected by the Tory policy of underfunding the NHS to the point of disaster. And to be honest I'm beginning to take it rather personally.
If you vote Tory, or have voted Tory, you have done this to me.Your vote has meant I've not seen an eye consultant for over two years, and now face another wait to be referred to a different hospital out of county.
