Today I did not cross the picket line @InfAtEd and I stand in support with #UCUstrike.

As a PhD student, I'm not directly affected by the pension policy. But, I've seen enough of the uni body exploiting its staff and students to stand in full support with the academic staff. 1/
Some non-compete list of examples includes increasing the number of MSc students SEVERAL TIMES without having the number of staff and infrastructure to support this change https://twitter.com/there_are_two_/status/1198240418057601024?s=19
Charging PhD students a £150 matriculation fee in their forth year, without even telling them https://twitter.com/jamesowers/status/1198885834868641792?s=19
Reducing teaching pay, just because the teaching contract was not automatically renewed, resulting in further loss for students and staff https://twitter.com/jamesowers/status/1198906655368462337?s=19
What makes me most furious is that #mentalhealth in academia is significantly worse that that in the general population. Teaching and research are both incredibly mentally challenging. Not only staff is not being paid accordingly for that, but is being outright exploited
This has immediate effect on students: both on the quality of education and their mental health. Which is why a lot of students support the strike too #StudentStaffSolidarity #UCUstrike
It was nice to see two undergrad students in the library cafe, handing out leaflets about this too. #StudentStaffSolidarity #UCUstrike
