So, I haven’t been saying too much on Social Media due to my family stuff going on the last week and a half, but I’ve been watching the games and film as well as doing some research and learning about some of the various defensive schemes and systems being run, which helped (1/2)
Me identify what I believe to be the root cause of the Lions defensive issues this season. If my hypothesis is correct, and my research has led me in the right direction, which I believe it has, then I may have found the root of the Lions struggles and issues under MP so far.
Another thing to point out too, is that this is very similar to the system Alabama has established. Their LB’s are typically four phase players. See Hightower, Mosley and Evans. Notice the three teams who took those three players? Pats, Ravens, Titans. Same style of D we want.
They’re successful because they’ve found their LB who they can rely on to do a variety of different things and/or do some things at a very high level. They identified an LB who can attack for an attacking 3-3-5 scheme. Ravens just choose to utilize more zone is the 1 difference.
Even Michigan with Devin Bush last year. When I kept saying he was their entire scheme and they revolved everything around him as a special do it all 4 phase, guy, this is exactly what I meant. The Steelers are another team in that similar kind of mold. It works, but you NEED LB!
