1/ re: Ivana quote ..OK so Tocqueville didn’t write those words in 1835; Judge John Innes Clark Hare did in 1899, paraphrasing Tocqueville. BUT it was similarly misquoted in NUMEROUS MEDIA REPORTS ... THIS IS WHAT Toqueville said:
2/ “By preventing political tribunals from inflicting judicial punishments, the Americans seem to have eluded the worst consequences of legislative tyranny, rather than tyranny itself; and I am not sure that political jurisdiction, as it is constituted in the United States,
3/ is not the most formidable weapon which has ever been placed in the rude grasp of a popular majority. When the American republics begin to degenerate it will be easy to verify the truth of this observation, by remarking whether the number of political impeachments augments.”
4/ “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville
5/ Sounds rather Republican here:
“Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America
6/ And here de Toqueville describes the current zeitgeist of the LEFT
7/ He predicts the Plantation mentality of the Party pandering to gimmedats:
“It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the 'right' to education, the 'right' to health care, the 'right' to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency.
