I've been working to document the timeline surrounding Rick Remender's exit from Marvel and the very odd situation of some of the current talent in comics being the same people that, in 2014, were calling for him to be fired over the "Sam Wilson sleeps with Jet" non-troversy. 1/6
Between 2012 and 2014 Remender was repeatedly hit with various "scandals" that were exaggerated misunderstandings, like Sam Wilson committing statutory rape (it was consensual and she was over 23), fridging (thanks, Gail) and claims of racism. It didn't feel random. 2/6
What's been frustrating (and curious) are that many articles no longer exist on the topic. Plenty of other articles still exist from the same time period, but the commentary written about this topic are all just... gone. Thank goodness for archives and links from other sites. 3/6
One of the ringleaders of the "let's get Remender" literally had a Tumblr blog called "living a rick remender hate life" that's now long gone. The author lives behind a protected tweet wall, but the associations and followers are... let's say peculiarly familiar. 4/6
Of course, people can like or hate whoever they want. It's a free country, and creative people need to be able to deal with criticism. But I'm struck by how "mobbing" a creator often plays out, and how in this "tight knit" community some patterns occur within cliques. 5/6
I'm doing a researched report this month (unusual for me, I know) where I'll just throw out the archived pages, the names, the dates, and the folks who are connected all together who went in on faux outrage. Folks who now have jobs in the industry, but haven't changed. Enjoy! 6/6
