This is one of the things I feared about Beto's abrupt departure from the race.

The sense of urgency surrounding gun control has since diminished.

Even worse: others are hesitant to speak out for what they truly believe in as they fear it could cost them an election. https://twitter.com/harpertweeted/status/1198748896920571904
The beauty of Beto was that he didn't give a shit about his prospects. He did what he felt in his heart was right and led instead of waiting to be led.

His bold honesty at dire times was refreshing to many in part because it's a quality sorely lacking from our national politics.
Though it's what people yearn for, it's difficult for Beto's kind of leadership to thrive in the political climate that we have today with bad faith politicians & msm pundits, so it honestly doesn't surprise me to see folks sticking to tactics that seem to work for an election.
I so badly wanted Beto overcome the odds. I wanted his approach to politics to become the standard, but having him out of the race so soon while a consultant-driven candidate with no core beliefs rises to the top sends the wrong message.
Anyways, as an admirer of Booker, I'm disappointed to see him back away from a policy he felt so strongly about. I get that it's part of the game... But to be honest, the constant charade has all but exhausted me.

As Beto would say, it's time for a new kind of politics.
