Have read/watched a lot of opinions about the @Tesla #Cybertruck the past couple days, but I haven't given mine. Mostly because I've been trying to sort it all out in my head. Like many, first impression was not great, but I was too busy working to take in the reveal event. 1/x
I'm not opposed to this general sort of design but some points (no joke) especially bothered me at first. Mostly the pint of the roof and the visual heaviness of the bed ahead of the wheels. Wheels seemed a tad undersized, but that's prob a function of the size of this. 2/x
I like the design of the bed. Longer than mine and nicely lit with integrated L-track tiedown system. No wheels well intrusion is really freaking awesome. The rear tonneau cover was pretty nifty and I like the solar option, but doubt it can add 15 miles/day. 3/x
Interior was a bit spartan. I think they could improve utility somewhat. But I do very much like the downward slant of the hood. This is a huge improvement over conventional design because it increases visibility, making it easier to maneuver in tight spots. 4/x
Saw grousing that the bed sides are too high, but anyone who's ever tried to load something heavy over the side of a modern pickup knows this is an issue with "normal" trucks too. Love the ramp in the tailgate, making make loading power sport vehicles easier and safer. 5/x
It's been a couple days now and the design is definitely growing on me, not that I'm in the market for a new truck. It sure does make conventional trucks look sort of boring now. I have a feeling I'm eventually going to be all about this thing. But...6/x
...I still have some questions about homologation and crash safety (crumple zones), not to mention manufacturability and repair. But, there's lots of time for those to be answered.
Oops, forgot to mention how much I love the integrated light bar at the top of the windshield. 7/x
Really hope Tesla makes a demo vehicle for the overlander crowd. There are some pretty interesting opportunities, aside from the camping setup they showed off with a rendering. 8/x
To sum up, the performance -- range, hauling ability -- for the price is really what sells this. At least at first. As we become accustomed to the aesthetic and it becomes normalized by our brains, the brashness of it will create deeper emotional connections. 9/x
Vehicle purchases have a large emotional component and I think the radical design will win over more and more hearts with time. Seeing as pre-orders are quickly reaching 200K, it looks like that's already happening. Will be interesting to see how this story develops. Fin.
And, Cybertruck has already made my last tweet look dated. 😃 https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1198788116372344832
