"Law enforcement sources tell us that Harry was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon at his Beverly Hills home by a family member. Paramedics were called, but we're told Harry was pronounced dead at the scene...
...and was then transported to the coroner's office where an autopsy is pending. Our sources say no foul play is suspected at this point... Harry is perhaps best known as the founder of the Pink Taco restaurant chain, which blossomed on the Sunset Strip in L.A...
...but has since expanded to other cities across the U.S. He is also part of a very famous family of restaurateurs. His grandfather, Arnie, cofounded the incredibly popular Morton's The Steakhouse chain in 1978, and his dad, Peter, co-founded the Hard Rock Cafe empire in 1971."
"It should also be noted that Harry was a volunteer sheriff's deputy in and around L.A. - specifically, with the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station, where he was recently honored as a Reserve Detective of the Year."
"The station says he had dedicated hundreds of hours a year in support of the station's Detective Bureau. In other words, he was big on giving back."
Did being a honorary detective with access to a sheriff in LA give him access to corrupt law enforcement? ? An ability to be the person called to a crime scene when something went wrong, or call corrupt officers to assist?
Morton purchased The Viper Room, the property where River Phoenix died of a suspected drug overdose in controversial circumstances. It was previously owned by Johnny Depp. The Viper Rooms had some wild stories, beyond the death of River Phoenix. https://www.ranker.com/list/what-has-happened-at-the-viper-room/mariel-loveland
The Viper Room was originally a strip club owned by famous 1940s/1950s LA gangster Micky Cohen. https://allthatsinteresting.com/mickey-cohen
In the '90s and early '00s, the Viper Room was a harbinger of illegal activity extending from drug abuse to high-stakes gambling. In the early '00s, the LA nightclub was the site of one of Hollywood's highest-rolling poker games, where a $50,000 buy-in was considered modest.
According to Molly Bloom, she regularly hosted illegal poker games featuring some of Hollywood's biggest stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Toby Maguire. https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/inside-life-celebrity-poker-madam/story?id=24219467&singlePage=true
In 1999, part-owner Johnny Depp found himself embroiled in a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed by his Viper Room business partner, Anthony Fox. Fox alleged that Depp conspired with four other individuals to commit fraud and divert millions away from the club.
In late 2001, Fox was fully prepared to testify against the Depp. There was only one problem – Fox went missing along with his pickup truck and .38-caliber rifle. Fox's truck was found 19 days after his disappearance abandoned in Santa Clara, California, on January 6, 2002.
Fox's body was never found and his disappearance remains a mystery. In 2004, Depp eventually settled the lawsuit and turned over his share of the Viper Room to Anthony Fox's daughter. https://jezebel.com/radar-online-wants-us-to-believe-johnny-depp-was-someho-1761228484
