THREAD: Last season, Saquon Barkley had 706 of his 1,307 yards on 20 carries of 15+ yards. That's 54% of his rushing yards on 7.6% of his attempts (261 ATTs total).
On his other 241 ATTs, Saquon averaged 2.49 yards per carry (this is bad). Out of the 48 running backs with 100+ ATTs last season, 2.49 yards per carry on rushes that did not go 15+- yards would rank 47th.
Through the first two weeks of the season, 86 of Barkley's 227 yards came on 2 carries. That's 37.9% of his yards coming from 6.89% of his carries. On his other 27 ATTs, Saquon averaged 5.2 YPA (this is insanely good).
Since he's returned from his injury, he's averaging 2.76 YPA. He has just 2 runs of 15 plus yards for a total of 42 yards. He has 224 rushing yards. He's not generating the big runs.
Saquon is an elite level talent but his over reliance on the BIG run is concerning. Big plays are game changing. But the hard to get yardage inbetween those big plays are just as important.
I am in no way saying that Saquon Barkley is a bad running back. What I am saying is that the Giants and Saquon need to find a way to generate more yards on the carries into the big plays. We should be CONCERNED with the lack of yardage on all the plays inbetween.
I don't want to see this team waste someone as good as Saquon. It's a combination of Barkley, the oline, and playcalling. MAKE IT WORK. Do what you have to do. Coach Barkley up. You didn't spend a 2nd overall pick on the guy for him to average 2.5 YPC 90% of the time.
