my take is that people who are pirating comics and reading online are typically people who wouldn’t be buying comics either. kids, people who don’t have the spare money for it, alienated markets, the list goes on. if you want to vilify poor people, that’s on you, BUT
please don’t run to the defense of a corporation who is failing its creatives as is. Time and time again I see people blame consumers for not being interested in a product, but let’s be god damned real here for a second: why should they be interested?
Most people are scraping by. Poverty rates are high, people are living paycheck to paycheck, working multiples jobs to survive, etc. If you wanna take the stance “then don’t read them.” that’s fine, but don’t act like poor people are evil or are the reasons the market is failing
The comic market has been unstable probably forever due to the business model + inaccessibility. Also don’t defend Comixology. Amazon is a truly evil corporation who is contributing heavily to worker abuse and a lot of people have strong aversions to anything Amazon owned.
Anyways I just woke up from a nap so i’m just gonna end this with: the root of the problem is capitalism and corporate greed and all your favorite artists could flourish if capitalism wasn’t limiting them and trying to turn maximum profit at the expensive of creatives.
