Some post-Slugfest things that got further reinforced to me this weekend:

1. Look at everything through a microscope, but within the context of the movement as a whole.

2. Elite Athletes are really just Elite Problem Solvers when it comes to movement. They’ll find a way
1 - movement is complex, the swing, the throw, it’s a lot of moving parts in all sorts of directions at variable times. Look at every metric individually, but relative to everything else. The solution to your problem might just be right outside your lens right now.
Start with the metric in a microscope and then always try to take it one step further, connect the dots, and understand the movement as a whole.

He doesn’t scap load. Why?
Well his trunk opens early, he doesn’t have time. Why?
Because he doesn’t block, his base is unstable. Why?
2 - Elite athletes make adjustments better than anyone in the world. I think a lot of times we overlook their deficiencies because of their ability to compensate elsewhere and be successful in the movement. This sword probably cuts multiple ways:
The elite athlete athlete that’s compensating for a deficiency but still performing well might be a tweak/cue/drill away from an even bigger unlock, but we’re often too scared to fix what’s not “broken”. And they probably won’t make it easy to know something is “broken”
And at the same time, as I’ve said before. One athlete’s inefficiency might be another athletes efficiency. But that probably reduces it too much 🤔

One athletes inefficiency might also be another athletes inefficiency that he compensates elsewhere for to still solve the problem
Additionally, the drills, constraints, and everything else in your toolbox that you had to use on the 16 year old kid that couldn’t hinge might not be necessary for the elite athlete. Be careful that you’re not wasting training economy applying the same “fix” to everyone.
Also,

@damselndadugout killed her presentation, and I couldn’t be more proud to work with her.

I’m not really a hitting guy, and I don’t know anything about the swing... yet 😉 but #slugfest2019 was about a lot more than hitting, and I found a ton of value in it.
So thanks to everyone that presented, everyone that I got to talk to/say hello to, and for putting it on @DLawson_Yankees, @jeffmalbert, and @TJeskeLAA @slugfest2019
