Just read through the #ConservativeManifesto from a public health perspective

Oh boy.

First, no mention of the Soft Drink Industry Levy or commitment to review marketing of HFSS foods.

This is in marked contrast to Labour, which explicitly commits to both.

Not surprising given Johnson’s opposition, but bizarre from a policy effectiveness perspective

Which leads us on to the core strategy of ‘lifestyle behavioural’ interventions

Assume this would be a rebranded Change4Life. In either case, it clearly signals that the Conservatives are not interested in addressing upstream drivers of health

3/6
“We are committed to reducing health inequality”

Not clear how this relates to the NHS and/or PFI?!

Liberal Democrat’s and Labour have both committed to a Health in All Policies approach - no sense of what the Cons are proposing to address inequalities

@peterricev2 has pointed out the incoherence of Lib Dem proposals on alcohol duty / exports.

Exhibit B

Overall, underwhelming and incoherent. A lot of the progress made in the childhood obesity strategy risks being undermined, and little evidence of a meaningful commitment to tackling health inequalities
