Had a great time at @ABCTNOW as always! After conferences, I’m usually pretty exhausted. So here is a list of things that I do for self-care after #conference #travel. Please share your own tips for #selfcare and #wellness. Let’s try to practice what we preach! #ABCT2019
1. Unpack when you get home so you’re not scrambling to find that toothbrush when you’re ready to plop into bed. Set up a reward for unpacking, such as watching your favorite trashy TV show (90 Day Fiance anyone)?
2. Jot down things you wanted to follow up on or questions you still have. Get them out of your head and down on paper so you can get back to them at a time that’s good for you.
3. Set up a self care activity with friends/colleagues either at the conference or after. @BFeinsteinPhD with me his fun tradition of mani/pedis at ABCT each year. Definitely doing this next year
4. Jump back into your exercise routine ASAP. First day back is always tough but have you ever regretted going after? Make your goal to just make it to the gym, or take a walk, and anything more is icing on the cake.
5. Set realistic goals! Your to-do list probably hasn’t gotten shorter while you’ve been away. So schedule in “work time” into your calendar and break tasks into small chunks (e.g., my only task today is to prep for sessions tomorrow).
6. Allow yourself to do what you need to do to recharge, whether it’s turning off electronics, laying on your couch in PJs, or cooking a nice meal for yourself.
