Reflecting on my trip to South Africa and it's remarkable how often climate change came up. African countries are massively impacted. This is what came up:
Rain arrived about a month later than expected this year

Because of this, animals in Kruger Park started dying because there wasn't enough water. I'm sure this happened in other places too but our guide specifically spoke about Kruger (2/?)
Kruger Park management need to construct dams and create artificial watering holes by pumping up water to make sure the animals have enough places to drink (3/?)
In St. Lucia our guide told us that certain birds arrive weeks or even months earlier than they did in previous years because the temperature has risen and earlier months are warmer. (4/?)
Water is a scarcity in African countries already so a months delay in rains has a massive impact on both animals and humans. When it did rain it came pouring down, the dried ground struggling to absorb it leading to floodings (5/?)
From our stay in this beautiful country it became very clear that locals are incredibly worried about this. In the countryside people depend on the weather and its predictability. Houses are built for the current climate, jobs are modelled around it, people depend on it (6/7)
It's countries in the Global South that are hit the hardest by climate changes at the moment. We need to be more aware of this, need to be aware that often already vulnerable communities are the first to suffer. We need to do better. (7/7)
