I am in church and have so many thoughts. First of all, all the statues are of buff men with ripped arms and bods including Jesus Christ on the cross.
I am in church and seeing all these statues of ripped male bodies makes me wonder how much of Christianity is about desire - homo and well as hetero
I am in church and seeing all the perfect bodies in iconography wondering about Christianity and fat shaming. I've never seen a fat angel or a fat Jesus in church, have you?
I am in church and none of the women in the choir or swinging incense have high heels or look particularly glamorous and wondering about Christianity and slut shaming. Though Mary Magdalene was a sex worker?
Am in church and one of the choristers started cruising me as soon as i entered. And am thinking about all the gay choir boys, priests and parishioners who are covertly gay. Sigh.
Am in church and there is not one single image in the statues or iconography of anyone who is Black, yet so many of the parishioners are Black and African. And am thinking about how white supremacy is fed to us through godliness and a white jesus. And he is always fit.
Am in church and a collection is going round and then they hold the money collected on a big plate and hold it up to this huge gold cross and am thinking OMG - Christianity and capitalism are connected.
Am in church the music is like a sound score to a film. Its all drama and smoke and its like being on a film set. Everything is extra, all gestures are exaggerated. It's completely camp.
