/ Happy to have found this monograph - an excellent postcolonial view on depictions of Poland and Ukraine in 19th-century Russian literature.
/ Twitter Synopsis:

The Poles are latinised, Catholicised, fake Slavs beyond redemption. Sophisticated and (wrongly) civilised, yes, but fundamentally subversive and treacherous.
/ The Ukrainians are “Little Russians” (almost in the literal sense of the word). Simple, authentic, traditional Slavic peasant folk, to be rescued and protected from insidious Polish influence (and themselves) by Great Russians, with their tradition of statehood.
/ Today’s civilisational discourses are basically an update on their 19th-century counterparts, where similar dividing lines to the ones in play today are readily apparent. /End
