The idea that Buckley would find Bannon as repulsive as I do, for entirely different reasons gives me a weird sense of satisfaction. The civil rights movement certainly caused quite a stir. It's a shame that mechanisms weren't put in place to protect the progress that was made...
But the era of Trump/Bannon isn't just about the traditional forms of racism and bigotry that have been the building blocks of American culture. It's about the demonization of 'others' both in and outside of its borders.
One of the features of the Trump era that baffles me is that some people who belong to those groups who have been the traditional targets of racism have joined Trump in support of his racist policies.
Another feature of the Trump era is the resurgence of misogyny. We live in a 'rape culture' & Trump personifies it. From the Billy Bush tape that was accepted as 'locker room talk' to the dozens of women that have come forward with accusations of sexual assault & hush $ paid.
Let's not forget that Trump reinstated the Mexico City policy also known as the global gag rule just 2 days after the 2017 Women's March and 3 days after his inauguration. Trump's entire presidency has been an assault on women's rights and yet women support him.
As a woman, and as a woman with 2 daughters, it disgusts me that even left-leaning women question female candidate's abilities to beat Trump at the polls.

Of the 2010 Census population, 157.0 million were female (50.8 percent) while 151.8 million were male (49.2 percent).
Perhaps the best thing that could happen is if the candidates identities were all kept secret until mid-way through the election year. I personally think that if the American people ever had the courage to elect a female president, they might regret their earlier choices.
Please, just this once, stop repeating history. Break the chains that bind you 🇺🇸

“Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you
Ye are many-they are few.”

― Percy Bysshe Shelley
