Boys and girls, side by side.

When you see this stuff in direct contrast, it's shocking. We are often actively telling boys to misbehave and be cynical. We are telling girls to be obedient.

We are telling girls their main jobs are to nurture others and look pretty, while boys get on with being active, sporty, sciency and competitive.

There are no girls' brains and boys' brains. There are children's brains, relentlessly bombarded with messages from adults about how they need to behave a certain limited way to fit in with their sex.
