Until recently most of my business came from the EU, primarily Spain. I was well established as a freelance translator, translating and localising for business, public bodies and international orgs.

In a typical week, I'd receive 10-20 new requests. I'd pick and choose the best.
In the second half of 2016 after the EU Referendum, approaches from new clients went down to maybe 5 requests a week. Existing clients began to ask wtf was going on with Brexit. What would change. Nothing will change for a long time, I reassured them.
By 2017 new approaches have pretty much dried up except for crappy work I'd stopped doing a long time ago. By a stroke of luck, the literary translation facet of my work took off and I'm translating primarily for a US publisher at this point. This is not typical. It saved me.
Brexit is a fucking disaster for small UK-based exporters. Even without anything actually happening clients are abandoning us because switching to an EU-based provider is the easiest thing in the world. Why wouldn't they avoid the hassle, real or imagined, of dealing with the UK?
