Here's a thing. *Even if* Labour were making wild uncosted spending promises, that's exactly what the fucking Tories are doing, coupled with tax cuts. But the "fiscal responsibility" narrative is so bone deep in the media that nobody can even work it out.

I don't *agree* with the daft thing we do of doing a cost benefit analysis without calculating the benefits, but even under that framework, which is supposedly showing Labour being irresponsible, the Tories are just worse and relying on people not to notice.

It's not just that people are doing bad analysis, they're not doing *any* analysis. They're coming to the conclusions they think the analysis would have come to, and just saying that instead.
