On Friday, yr girl got an invitation to be part of a Leadership Oklahoma panel on Medicaid expansion on Saturday morning. It was a great panel and a great conversation, I was totally happy to be there
I didn't have time to totally accommodate it into my usual routine, so this morning I skipped my run and snarfed down some cold pizza and an energy drink before driving an hour and change to the event
On that panel, we discussed Medicaid expansion, and other Oklahoma health topics, including social determinants. We all agreed that Medicaid expansion isn't a silver bullet
Driving back home, I had Thanksgiving grocery shopping to do, and I detoured at Costco to get a hot dog for lunch. Which is when I realized that how often we talk about social determinants/healthy behaviors only in the context of Medicaid expansion
That is, when we're talking about poor people
(I had a soda with that hot dog. I'd gotten up early, wanted some caffeine and a sugar jolt)
The point here is not that I'm a horrible person modeling unhealthy behaviors (although: arguable!). The point is what and who we think about when we think about health and health care, and the contexts in which we discuss particular topics
That's been sitting with me all day

(I had cold pizza for an afternoon snack, too)
(Shoutout to Leadership Oklahoma, would totally drive further distances to hang out with you all again!)
