1) My current thoughts & wonderings about next steps at MPS: If we shift to cmty schs, thus asking/forcing many families of color who have chosen to leave their cmty schs to return to them, what are we offering them beyond a hope & a promise? @MPS_News @EquityMPS
2) We will have to close schools. We are operating as though we still have 50k kids and we have 33k. The move to cmty schools redistributes kids back across the city so that WHEN schools get closed they aren’t all the most underenrolled Northside schools. @EquityMPS @MPS_News
3) What programs can we offer Northside fans to make cmty schs attractive? I suggest innovative school models that actually look/feel different & Allow those schools to hire staff that reflect the cmty. Why wld ppl return to more of what ISNT WORKING? @MPS_News @EquityMPS
4) What do we gain in this study? How much $ saved, how many fewer racially/economically isolated schools? What do we lose? Need a more clear AGGREGATE of how this improves district composition/$ (maybe this is cliff notes version some bd mbrs want) @MPS_News @EquityMPS
5) Even with all the changes in this study, I’m not sure this represents the massive structural change we need to keep us from falling over the 2025 fiscal cliff. Or does it? Clear through lines on restructure>savings>survival needed. @MPS_News @EquityMPS
6) We need the worst case scenario, climate-change-level fiscal cliff info on a giant placard so that when bd mbrs start veering off track, it’s right there. We can’t pay for EVERYthing and we can’t cut our way to survival. We need BIG change. @EquityMPS @MPS_News
7) This is super complicated but the public has responsibility to absorb ALL the presentations from the last 6 months which say: WHAT WE’RE DOING IS NOT WORKING OR SUSTAINABLE. If we splinter & only focus on our school/little corner of the city, we’ll fail. @EquityMPS @MPS_News
