Definitions of authentic resources are not always so clear #actfl19
For example- Siempre Bruja doesn’t show the experience of Afro-Colombians but the white Colombian perception of Afro Colombians #actfl19
What is the communicative intent of the authentic resources? How is the resource perceived by the community? #actfl19
If we are using authentic resources for Interculturality and social justice, students have to be able to understand them- not just skim and scan. YES!!!!! #actfl19
For authentic resources you can have focused processing or thorough processing- a dog drinking from a water bowl versus a dog swimming in the water #actfl19
But students need to be able to do both- one doesn’t take precedence over another #actfl19
Pairing texts for comparison are great for thorough processing. Also using Comprehensible teacher talk with authentic resources- YES!!! Again! It doesn’t have to be either or!!! #actfl19
Sometimes students may have to process some of these questions outside of class and then follow up with a Target language activity #actfl19
Good processing ideas- classify vocabulary or circle the perspective that is in the resource. #actfl19
