This whole taxation on the rich debate just shows the ignorance of our citizens. Whether you earn enough money or not for it to affect is pretty irrelevant. You either understand it or you don’t. If you don’t, educate yourself.
There are people out there earning minimum wage who are criticising the very policies that will protect them and their families and give them a better life. There are people earning good money who are too selfish to understand what it’s like to earn fuck all.
It demonstrates whether you’re a good person or not to be honest. Money is a horribly divisive topic and we need better social education for people.
You have people commenting that £80k isn’t a lot of money. Let’s be clear - it fucking well is. Just because you can’t buy the second holiday you might like doesn’t make you poor. There are families in absolute poverty earning less than £150 a week who desperately need clothes.
We have more food banks and users than ever before. We have the highest rate of child poverty. We have nonces in the Royal Family making a point about being able to eat at Pizza Express as if that’s such a shock to their daily lives.
This country is broken and I’m at the end of my tether with the whole thing.
There is a minimum level of support that every citizen should have. That level should increase over time so that everyone in society has a decent opportunity to live the life they deserve. If you don’t agree then you’re an arsehole.
Don’t sit there with your 4 beds, 2 cars, big family holiday and disposable income and try and even criticise those in poverty. They work just as hard as you. They haven’t had the same opportunities.
This is coming from someone who was brought up in a Conservative household. You either want to help people or you don’t.
I’m really lucky. Incredibly so. I don’t for one minute think it’s because I worked harder. I was lucky.
I haven’t been born with social or financial challenges although my parents never earned much. I’m fortunate that my parents sacrificed everything to put my brother and me through private education. Others aren’t lucky in that regard but don’t take that as choice.
Fight for what’s right. Not what makes your life easier.
Fight for the many, not the few. Sacrifice a little to help those not as fortunate as you are. Give your care and time to think what it’s like for others.
Final point. Supporting LFC, learning the impact of our governments on areas like Merseyside, has taught me so much over the past 20 years on what is important. I have a lot to thank LFC for.
