I know this point has been made a lot but worth saying again after seeing a lot of lazy "save our nhs" posts doing the rounds. The way to save our nhs isnt as simple as injecting more money into it or stopping privatisation. The entire system is not fit for purpose anymore.
The nhs was born out of post-war Britain, with a focus very much on physical injury. You get hurt, you come in to get fixed at no cost to you, you go home. The heart and values of the nhs must remain, but our sickness has changed and so must the system.
For decades we have been sticking plasters over a system that is not fit for modern Britain. We are sick because we are poor, because of the demands of modern life, because we are lonely, because we've experienced trauma, because we are addicted to stuff that makes us feel better
We need a government brave enough to admit that for the nhs to be saved, we need to be honest that it hasn't evolved in line with our society, and it needs a radical overhaul to survive. A move away from a medical-focussed model, towards community & relationship based practice.
