okay so the thing that made me burst into tears 10 min into luo xiaohei is the light motif (almost built into his name as 小黑) the first scene sets up the association of “light” with “home”, and we see how he loses both of them when he falls into darkness (and into a dumpster) +

+here r a bunch of incredible urban shots as he travels around trying to find somewhere to stay!! but his foreground is always in the dark while the lights are far from him.....he hides in the shadows bc the artificial lights expose him to danger +

+even when he’s back on nature, the light is out of his reach. he’s never bound to a space long enough to make it his home. +

+so that’s why i started crying when he goes with feng xi and finally steps back into the light....he’s welcomed to a place he can feel safe again and he’s found a new home (╥﹏╥) +

+it makes the transition back into shadow extra heartbreaking when he realizes he’s once again lost a place he belongs to....interestingly enough his loss of home is always caused by human means +

+however, that is subverted as xiao hei travels with wu xian. even though he’s unwilling to admit it, by this point his “place of light” identifies with both feng xi and wu xian...this dualism (and coexistence) is reflected in his design as a cat boy (imo) +

+i think there is something so moving about how these places of light are associated with the act of eating together...there is just something about seeing the warmth of light, food, and people come together so harmoniously for both humans and monsters (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥｀) +

+in conclusion, please watch luo xiaohei.....it is just so stunning and joyful to watch.....also maybe my heart was just a little bit moved by wuxian and maybe i am just a little bit in love with him.......
