my masters thesis is basically on anime nazis and why there’s so much imagery of moe anime girls in the altright. when i started my research, my specific goal was to show that misogyny played an instrumental role in the politicization of the altright.

i still believe misogyny to be a crucial piece of the WHY behind the altright (considering the crossover w/ the manosphere and gamergate). even if you don’t call it misogyny, you really can’t argue that a particularly negative conceptualization of women was instrumental here.

however, it’s naive to think of the altright as a cohesive “movement” solely made up of 4chan fascists/nazi LARPers and violent incels.

a common thread tying all of my research together is the significance of male loneliness and social/sexual disenfranchisement. can that manifest into misogyny? absolutely. but that shouldn’t preclude helping young men get out of that mindset.

at the root of it all is the fact that neoliberalism and late stage capitalism has made life fucking unbearable for people, including young men who were sold an ideation of masculinity that is tied to the accumulation or capital/consumer goods.

this particular strain of altright misogyny (or sexual politics, if you will) is just as much the product of economic and class conditions as it is of sex/gender relations

stuff like unions and class solidarity ARE A WAY OUT!!!! this performatively virtuous gatekeeping does absolutely nothing to rehabilitate people from the sort of social disillusionment and loneliness that altright ideologies feed upon.
