Ok.Trigger warning.I see too much untruth on the subject of domestic violence and men. I& #39;m going to share an experience of something I unfortunately witnessed as a young woman years b4 experiencing dv firsthand. ABUSE HAS NO GENDER and if we don& #39;t talk about it, it won& #39;t change.
(1/19)Men are abused too!
I& #39;ve thought about sharing this for a long time.I am a domestic abuse survivor.I was abused by a man. My first experience with dv was years before, unfortunately witnessing a close friend violently attack her husband and then threaten me to keep me quiet.
(2/19)This will seem irrelevant, but will be later,I promise. When I started grad school I met an older student recently single and started a relationship.I found out he was not single and cheated on his girlfriend w/me.I ended it quick, but it earned me an unfortunate reputation.
(3/19)That is how she and I became such close friends. I was shy and insecure. She was audacious, beautiful, and wouldn& #39;t let anyone judge me. We were instantly close. She had a fiance who would be joining us as a student the next semester after finishing his undergrad degree.
(4/19) Eventually her fiance joined us at school, I helped plan their wedding and they were like my family away from my home in New England.
Eventually, they had some financial issues, so her husband dropped out if school for a semester to work full time.
(5/19) One night they left a party to get cigarettes, but never came back and didn& #39;t answer my calls. I learned the next day they& #39;d been in a car accident. She was fine but her husband wasn& #39;t wearing his seat belt and sustained several injuries including cuts and a black eye.
(6/19) Later that week she invited me over to dinner. It was clear she& #39;d been drinking when I arrived. She was very upset that he wasn& #39;t making enough money and was concerned about their finances. He eventually came home and went to the couch to watch tv and leave us to talk.
(7/19) She began berating him, screaming, degrading him in front of me. He got up from the couch to walk toward the bedrooms. She jumped up, got in his way, and screamed in his face. She then began punching him with a closed fist right where he already had a black eye.
(8/19) He did not retaliate, closed his eyes, grabbed a handful of his pants on both sides and just took it.I was shocked and yelled her name which distracted her.He ran and locked himself in the bathroom. She pounded on the door insanely. I had to stop her from hurting herself.
(9/19)I convinced her to leave with me so he could get out of the bathroom.Once we were discussing it she tried to 1)convince me I didn& #39;t see what I just saw..when that didn& #39;t work 2)if I wasnt there he would& #39;ve hit her back..key word & #39;back& #39; 3)he deserved it for not making enuf $
(10/19)She spent the majority of the night telling me what a horrible person I was for thinking she was capable of what I had actually just witness her do. I felt so stupid I ever fell for their excuses for his injuries. It wasnt the 1st time he& #39;d had a black eyehttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😔" title="Pensive face" aria-label="Emoji: Pensive face">.
