All Level 3 English students are taught to critically analyse and evaluate texts using close reading skills. Students are free to situate themselves within the subject matter and respond to the ways the writer lassos language toward philosophical, political, or aesthetic ends. https://twitter.com/RebekahWh/status/1198036172162752513">https://twitter.com/RebekahWh...
Here& #39;s the context if you& #39;re new to this ridiculous accusation of & #39;state-sponsored brain washing& #39;: https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/23-11-2019/national-mp-alleges-state-sponsored-brainwashing-over-ncea-question/">https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/...
The main rebuttal to National et al should not be that this text is actually *not* that hard on farmers (more an exploration of the ambivalence surrounding our supposed twin loves of agriculture and the environment)...
The point is that *no* text is apolitical and English, as a subject, equips students to explore, name, and critique the positioning and effects of diverse writing genres and products.
