Boris Johnson's "letter box" column pressed 2 key points. A) It argued against banning the burka - a position adopted by many EU politicians & UK columnists; B) It said not banning burkas didn't mean approving of them - we can criticise or even mock them without banning them.
A 3rd thing abt Boris' "letter box" column was it declared Muslim-associated symbols & garb not immune from criticism or mockery. That was physically as well as politically brave, given the recent murders of journalists for mocking Muslim symbols.
That act of Boris - placing himself at non-trivial risk of murder in the active promulgation of press freedom re criticism of Muslims - was both brave & scandalously ignored by many who piously tweeted " #JeSuisCharlie" when it cost them nothing.
