Really interesting to see non Korean people knock the kraft cheese on top of shin ramyun pairing as a white people thing when Koreans literally do it and invented it themselves.
Asians: *do anything that is not stereotypically linked to our culture*
Non Asians: okay WHITEY
Non Asians: okay WHITEY

A lot of Asian countries have been subjected to imperialism or military occupation and a lot of our cuisine reflects that (see: Korean army base stew, Japanese yoshoku cuisine, literally ALL of Filipino cuisine, French food in Vietnam, hagelslag in Indonesia, just to name a few)
And a lot of it was done when food sources were scarce and had to adapt with what ingredients were available (which explains why spam, which was supplied in huge quantities to the US army, is so commonplace in Hawaiian, Japanese, and Korean cuisine for instance)
Yoshoku might’ve been a bad example I think that’s more on par with cultural exchange than imperialism BUT the point is it strips a lot of the autonomy and history of E/SE/S Asians making lemonade out of lemons and using innovation to create new cuisine despite hardships
For context! Also highly recommend reading the article OP linked under their tweet it’s really interesting https://twitter.com/kraftsingles/status/1197299686660546567?s=21
